Top 5 reasons Tumblr is a dance hot spot

You may have recently heard of Tumblr solely due to the fact that it has been bought by Yahoo!

Well, now that it’s on the public’s agenda, why not provide some information as to why it’s relevant for dancers past, present, and future?

  1. Tumblr was created as a blogging website, so if you enjoy reading this blog or feel inspired to create a dance-related blog of your own it is the perfect site to try out. You can create one just to follow other blogs or if the dancer in you is dying to publish original material.
  2. It’s simple. Not everyone has extensive knowledge of HTML and all that jazz (get it? jazz!), so Tumblr makes it easy for anyone to start blogging. Uploading choreography videos, asking questions about technique, and scrolling through endless dance pictures is a click away.
  3. Need advice on getting your center splits? Confused as to why you keep falling out of your turns? Looking for tips on how to master a flawless calypso? Tumblr has tons of dance blogs solely dedicated to helping other dancers. There’s a large dance community on the site and any question you have will most likely be answered. Perfect for the dancer not currently with a studio or coach!
  4. We’re performers. We like the attention and we like to show off a little bit. Tumblr makes it easy to do that in a way that doesn’t feel totally narcissistic. You see, people on this website WANT to see photos and videos. If you start a dance blog and tag your performance videos or leap and extension shots on your blog, don’t be surprised if dozens or hundreds of people reblog your post. It gives a similar rush to hearing the applause of an audience after a show.
  5. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what language you speak. If you’re reading this, you obviously understand English, but what if you want to explore the Spanish ballet? Or performances in Europe? Or how to learn African dancing? Tumblr reaches millions of people across the globe and can be used in 12 different languages. That cultural dance education you’ve always craved is in the palm of your hand… or should I say mouse?
